YOGA
Hatha Yoga includes both dynamic (gentle movements) and static (holding) aspects to the practice of postures (asanas).
Yoga helps bring awareness to some of life’s existential questions.
- Who am I?
- Why am I here?
Did you know:
Yoga is more than just posture (Asana) practice?
There are Eight Limbs of Yoga:
- Virtues (Yamas)
- Ethics (Niyamas)
- Postures (Asanas)
- Breath Control (Pranayama)
- Sensory Withdrawal (Pratyahara)
- Concentration (Dharana)
- Meditation (Dhyana)
- Cosmic Consciousness (Samadhi)
Yoga can release emotions such as laughter, joy, tears and the occasional fart?
Yoga has specific postures that relate to the different energy centers in the body(chakras).
Yoga is not a competition either within yourself or with others.
Yoga is NOT a religion or a religious practice. It may help you connect with your own beliefs and spirituality but it is not a religion.
Yoga connects the breath and body movements. Yoga can help address stress and burnout.
Yoga is for EVERYBODY and EVERY BODY. The beauty of yoga is that it can adapt to everybody’s level of ability. The use of blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, and a chair will meet accessibility needs. Yoga is this beautiful, amazing internal practice that works for each individual.
The practice of yoga is designed to create balance. In the practice we unite polarities to create union, i.e. the inhale and exhale or in an more existential sense the strength of the sun with the receptivity of the moon, the yin with the yang, etc.
Classical breath based Hatha Yoga connects the breath to the body. The breath we use in these classes is known as the Victory or Ocean breath (Ujjayi), and it is taught in each class. There are several breath based principles that we follow:
- The body movement is the breath movement.
- Inhalation from above as receptivity and exhalation from below as strength.
- The breath envelopes the movement.
- Postures (Asanas) creates a gentle hold in a particular part of the body (bandha) and bandha serves the breath.
Asana (postures) allows for pranayama (breathing) and pranayama allows for meditation.
Prana is the universal life force and Yama means control, so pranayama is the conscious use of the life force within our bodies.

Amalie Farris of Raven Moon, LLC is an Integrated Health Partner.
Inspired by my mentor, teachers, environment, and Reiki Master, I bring a unique sense of connection to every class I teach. Students leave each session feeling refreshed, valued and rejuvenated through purposeful postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. Each session is carefully crafted to increase energy awareness and body-mind connection. Postures are identified both in English and Sanskrit. I provide demonstrations and offer hands-on assistance.
I am a yoga practitioner, RYT 200 instructor and registered with Yoga Alliance. I earned a Master’s Degree in Human Performance in Sport from the University of Tennessee. Yoga is a lifestyle I wholeheartedly embrace, and I am excited to share this yogic life experience.
